How to Work Yourself Well: It’s All About You
What a relief: What we experience in our work-quest really IS all about us, because that we can change! The news that it really is all about us is a big message of this series. Creating your own work and looking for work, we are vulnerable. Vulnerable is good because vulnerable is open. Love uses all our needs to draw us closer, as we said in our post, “How to Make your Search for Work Sacred: RELAX.”
It’s all about us
Learning how we see the world really is all about us is a big turnaround to wellness. It helps us learn where to focus: inwardly. It helps us take the time we need to focus. Remembering we need time for our deeper selves helps us not overwork: workaholism is disrespectful to the spirit of work. Workaholism is being disavowed by work gurus such as productivity coach Peter Bregman (see especially his story on returning his I-Pad using the link you’ll find here) and Joan Friedlander, “return to yourself” coach for entrepreneurs recovering from chronic illness–and for entrepreneurs seeking to avoid it, I’ve found!
Work is Love made visible unless Love’s not visible in your work
“Work is Love made visible,” wrote Kahlil Gibran in the Prophet. But he didn’t stop there; his advice is tough and very real for those of us asking Love sincerely to keep our work fresh and surrendered:
And if you cannot work with love but only with distaste, it is better that you should leave your work and sit at the gate of the temple and take alms of those who work with joy.
For if you bake bread with indifference, you bake a bitter bread that feeds but half man’s hunger.
And if you grudge the crushing of the grapes, your grudge distils a poison in the wine.
And if you sing though as angels, and love not the singing, you muffle man’s ears to the voices of the day and the voices of the night.
So Love your work. If you don’t already love your work, ask. Follow our four steps to learn to listen to Love, rely on Love’s voice, and relax into Love’s voice before you ask. Especially when your work right now is creating or finding work. Becoming a beacon of Love made visible can make the difference to attracting exactly what you want in your work.
It IS is all about you–and me! Please let us know how we’re doing helping you keep the faith with your quest for right work.
